No! Don't fall for Intel's silly offerings!

Wait for Skylake, if you want to upgrade now you may as well go with Sandy Bridge because the performance increase over the last 2 major architectures has been negligible.

If you're really noticing lower performance in games then go for the 4970K. Keep in mind there's no upgrade path, Intel changes the socket every "tock" in the microarchitecture

I'm not sure why I would get a 3820 over a 4790k, I'm more looking for a great quad core. I made the mistake imo of buying a 6 core in 2011, which cost me a shit ton, now I want to upgrade but my only hold back is the fact I payed for much for my current CPU. I'm really not planning on paying close to 1k for a CPU this go around especially since a quad core will serve me better in gaming. It looks like most of sandy bridge's CPUs are six core processors and the ones that aren't don't seem better than the 4790k. I was thinking of waiting till skylake but damn, q4 2015 is it? That's like this time next year...

I wasn't necessarily telling you to go Sandy Bridge, I was just pointing out that you may as well have considering your current processor.

Obviously I can't tell the future so I don't know whether Skylake will be good or not, but if you're looking for something now the 4790K would be the best choice.
