Hi, I was looking at the Astro MixAmp and I was wondering if it had any good use for PC. It has options for mixing game/chat audio but I;m pretty sure that's a feature for consoles.

Is there any reason to buy it for the PC besides the surround sound (I heard it works as an amp that drives headphones but not sure)

Thanks

Not really. You can get a better discreet amp at a better price. And the surround is mostly bogus. You only have 2 ears, so like 7 small drivers is not going to help that much with positioning.

I don't think it is even 7 small drivers. It is virtual surround which works quite well.

So the AstroMixAmp just really works as an amp if I use it for my pc?

Thanks

Yeah, basically yes. It is just not a really viable option in my books for PC audio.

Yeah it is. It is not really useful though. I personally find 2 drivers and a good amp a lot better with no virtual surround. I guess it is subjective? And the driver amount depends on the headphones.

It makes a difference if setup right.

But an overpriced Astro amp will still be an overpriced Astro amp any way you look at it.

True, it's not going to power higher ohm headphones much at all. It's made for 32 ohm headphones, and console gaming in mind. In comparison to other options, it's not bad, especially if you game on a console as well. I've had mine for years.
