Hi there

I have a friend/Clan mate that want to go out and buy a really good pc but there is just one problem. He want to go out and buy 2800mhz ram but skimp on some other parts. Now I really want to help him out but he doesn't really understand that RAM doesn't make a huge difference and he might end up with issues liek I did. I have 2400mhz ram cause was very cheap. it was on special here but anyway my cpu isn't stable at 2400mhz. i had to back down to 1600mhz and I see little to no difference. Now I want to convince him not to go with the 2800mhz ram and rather get something like 1866mhz or even a bit slower but I think 1866mhz is better. Now he start telling me he rather get the 2800mhz cause otherwise he might regret getting the 1600mhz or 1866mhz kits.

I swear you get some really idiotic people in the world that will never listen. I bet he might end up not even enabling xmp in the bios and never even care to look at it. I know linus did a video about ram speed and performance in games i think about last year. Maybe I should link him that video to tell him the honest truth.

thanks for the video.

Yes exactly. I really get irritated by people when they buy the wrong parts like the ram part now. He is also the person telling me now that performance will depend on screen size and I told him that a 24" 1080p and 32" 1080p will have exact same performance. It's not the screen size but the resolution that makes a difference. but oh well clearly he doesn't know that much about pc parts.

I would say less ram speed but more ram as he does cad work and so on and that can benefit from more ram rather than speed. but oh well. I will link him the video and then also ask him to list me all the components he's intended to buy. I know another guy that just bought a GTX980 for an arm and a leg and only games on a 1080p 60hz panel and not intended to buy 144hz or so....lol just laughing but yeah you get some really dumb people in the world and then they don't listen to me.

Maybe I should stop worrying. If he think he will be better off with 2800mhz then so be it. I will just laugh if he doesn't even know to enable XMP or sit with same issue I do. at least I sort of convinced him to go gtx970 instead of gtx 980.

Still how can I convince him to go 1866MHz?

Edit: I still think 1866mhz is where it stops. you should see the best frame latency there as it doesn't over stress the IMC. running 2800mhz you would need 1.65V anyway and that may cause issues.

Yeah, but ultimately it is his build and his money. There is only so much you can say. You can't force your opinion on someone. You don't want the friendship degraded because of some ram sticks.

I believe you don't like someone to tell you what you should or shouldn't buy all the time either.
