Do mail-in rebates actually work?

I'm just looking at my build and seeing that I could get quite a bit of money back, and it seems a little fishy. I'm probably just being skeptical, but since this is my first build I would like some advice from people who have done this before. Thanks!

As long as it's from a reputable manufacturer, you should be fine.

I have not done this before but i know it works, the only thing is that its called "mail-in" rebate for a reason... you have to mail it and that takes time, so it would be awhile before you actually see that money but you do see it again lol, but then again some people are really skeptical about it

I've never actually mailed one in, I've just filled out the online forms from the manufactures for mail-in rebates. Always got my money in the mail.

I've done two both of which were through Acer, sent them over to AUS and got a cheque in the mail about 2-3 weeks later.

I filled out an online MSI one for my motherboard, never have seen the money that was three months ago. When I try to check the status of the rebate it says something like, "Rebate not found." But if I try and refill one out it says my motherboard is already associated with a rebate so I can't. I bet they work and I just did something wrong.

Done a few with HP, money came through within 2 months

The thing I dont like about rebates is that you usually have to cut the original box, which voids your warranty in a lot of situations
