Hello, I just had a few questions about overclocking.

1. What is the maximum "safe" Vcore voltage to ensure some lifetime operation (not dying within a year)?

2. Does a better cooler help the overclock, even though the temps are fine?

3. Does a motherboard help overclock the chip further?

I currently have an ASRock Pro4 motherboard, Hyper 212 EVO, and overly adequate cooling. It is currently stable with the CPU ratio at x45, fixed Vcore at 1.3V, Fixed CPU input at 1.9V, and Cache ratio at x35/1.2V. Any suggestions to get a larger overclock? Or if not, the best overclock for heat and stability.

1: 1.3v is almost always safe and up to 1.4v may be fine, it just depends

2: I don't think so

3: Not anymore, motherboards are almost all equal in overclocking now, but some do have nice features that make it easier.

I like how on your page your cpu is an i5 5470k. And on an evo 212 I wouldnt do more than 1.275v I had that setup last week. It will get pretty hot past that point. And that is with artic silver 5 for a replacement for the thermal paste.

A better cooler means you can push the CPU further without it getting as hot.

As long as your temps stay below 80 or so under max load you should be fine.

Turns out it was getting over 80C with the IntelBurn, but never gets that hot gaming.

Exactly what you should aim for, if you are topping out with spike up to about 85c ish that means your gaming will probably never go past 70-74c. That's what mine was getting to in extreme cpu sided games.

Thats fine :P

I'd suggest upgrading to an AIO or Custom water cooling in the future if you want to push it a little more or just have lower, safer temps.

Also why I made this post, wondering if I would get n H80i for better compatibility (and keep my case, I quite like it), or wait for a better cooler (H100i, I don't need anything better than that for my current setup)

I'd go for an h105 instead of an h100i as it has quite a few of the h100i's problems fixed and is pretty much the same size. (I think the rad is slightly thicker or something like that)

Does it have corsair link though? I would want full control of it.

Pretty sure it does, you could check the page for it on corsairs website and it should say if it does.

It doesn't, but it has some cool color rings, and looks overall better than the 100i: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h105-240mm-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler
