Beginner that needs help building!

surehit123

Hello everyone,

First of all I want to say I'm fresh and new to building a PC. So I want to thank you in advance for the help.

I want to build a rig containing a GTX970. The catch is that I want to know what's the cheapest build I go can go for and not bottleneck my GPU. I'm still thinking whether I should go for an i5 4690k.. About the motherboard and the rest of the build, I have no idea what to get.

BUdget will probably be 900$...

Thanks again... Sorry for being such a noob, lol

Anyway, hoping to get some help from this awesome place!

Do you have access to a copy of Windows, and do you have a monitor, mouse and keyboard that you can use? If not, will we need to include this in your budget?

Yes, I have a copy of windows, a mouse, monitor and a keyboard. I even have the kraken 7.1. Right now im gaming on my laptop which only has a gt630M lol... I can play farcry 3 and bf3 but on low settings only and though the gameplay is still amazing, i dont get that satisfaction you get when everything is maxed out.

Thank you for the tips! :D Really appreciate the fast reply!

No worries :) Here is a build that I've come up with for you. I tried to keep colours consistent as well. It is slightly over budget, but the GTX 970 is a highly priced card. Do you need an nvidia card for a particular reason? I only say this becasue AMD's R9 290X and 290 have got huge price drops recently making them very competitive with nvidia cards. The 290X is about $30 cheaper than the 970 and performs slightly better than it too :) Just something to think about!

Wow! Thanks mate! This is really a big help. The reason im choosing the970 over AMD cards is ebcause of the Gsync as well as the relativity of the card. Thinking about future proofing, I admit though that I am a little lenient on the Nvidia side of things. Maybe even a tad biased towards them lol. I enver owned an amd rig so Iw ouldnt know. This is a great help!

That's a fair enough point. You'll need to buy a G-sync capable monitor though if you want to take advantage of that feature. You can always do that later though if you need to! AMD GPUs are perfectly fine - they do consume a bit more power and are slightly warmer, but they are amazing for OpenGL compute and have brilliant price to performance. Driver support isn't quite as top notch as nvidia's but they still do well :)

No need for an unlocked cpu. An i5-4590 is more than enough cpu for a GTX 970.

Everything should be fine but the graphics card might be a bit too long to fit in the case. You might need to remove a hard drive cage to fit it in. You can try one of the cases the other users on this thread posted as well - those ones might be long enough :)

Hey, follow up question... Can you recommend a monitor that's around 200-250$?
