No, an ipad is a waste of money and is locked down, buy a nexus 7, cheaper and it has way better specs. If you wait you can buy an asus memo pad 7 which is coming out soon for 139 with an ips display.

He asked if it was worth buying, I answered that, then gave an alternative that costs less.

It's worth buying, however there could be a new one announced in September most likely for release in October.

If she doesn't mind not having the newest product every year, it's no problem at all.

A new iPad Mini would be out in about 4 months.

He actually asked whether if it was STILL worth buying. I'm guessing his mom was already set on an iPad and only wanted to know if it was a good idea to buy now or just wait until the new one.

This is just turning out into a fanboi war.

I say wait.

Apple will most likely update the iPad mini during their annual September Event.

If you simply canno't hold your horses until then, then you should consider the current iPad mini.

iOS and Android offer two different user experiences and it's up to the customer to decide on what they want. If Android isn't for them, don't force on them like a typical fanboy.

That said, there could be a newer version of the iPad mini by the end of the year, so I'd say hold off for now.

I wonder, can you plug in a USB Keyboard into a nexus 7 via that microusb?

How long would an iPad mini last in relation to the iPhone 4S given that they're basically the same save for the extra RAM?

That is definitely possible, I am not sure if it is supported with out after market software though.

Go for a refurb model. I think they're like $50 cheaper and are basically brand new. Even with a new one most likely coming out in Oct, at that price it's worth it. Especially since most rumours point to a next year release for the retina version. But hey, maybe it will be a good idea to hold off.

Oh and the people suggesting the Nexus 7, ehh. You're dealing with two different tablets here, very different. If you can get ahold of a Nexus 7 for her to try out, do so, otherwise I wouldn't bother making that decision with her regretting it.

So if your mom is willing to use andriod which is not too hard to learn if she already uses ios, then a nexus 7 would be a good idea.
