mPCI-E Card?

Hey,

 

Just wondering, with the Z97-Maximus VII Hero board, could I use an ROG mPCI-E combo III card to get wifi & bluetooth and use an mSata SSD? I know it comes with the Formula and Gene boards but what about us ATX folk who want to use it without breaking the bank?

Or just don't waste money on an ROG board and get a separate SSD + WiFi card.

Sure you can get an expansion card, that's what they are for. Only downside is occupying a slot.

I already have SSDs, I don't care for the extra storage. I just want the Wifi/Bluetooth without occupying a full PCI-E lane on my motherboard.

It doesn't matter, because x1 cards for things like WiFi/Bluetooth run off the 8 PCIe lanes from the chipset. They do not affect the 16 PCIe lanes from the CPU that are reserved for graphics cards.

the M combo its just a mini-pcie m.2 slot

and no you can't use both at the same time its either or you can use a m.s ssd or a mini-pcie wifi card but not both at the same time
