XFX R9 280x

CloudySky

So I recently built a computer and everything works great. I apologize in advance if the cable management isn't the best.

However, I feel a bit paranoid because the GPU looks a bit slanted,,?

Look at the picture below on the right side of the GPU where the PCI-e cables are plugged in:

It seems like the cables are pulling on the frame of the GPU and sandwiching it. Is the GPU suppose to be like this?

I would go crazy if I had to see that much sag on my GPU. Try using some fishing line to support it.

Fishing line? how so?

It's normal. If you're really worried, find a way to prop it up or hold it up.

Find a hole you can put it through in the rear and tie it up.

I'll see what I can do.

How do people make their build so clean as if there were no cables....

I ended up plugging so many things into the PSU and the bottom portion (grommets) of my computer case seems a bit clutter.

Route your PCIe power cables through the same hole as your 24 pin, so it's coming from above the card. That helps with sag because the cables aren't pulling the end of the card down.

I don't really like that idea because I want to have a clean build.

I put hours into the cable management. Perhaps I should try to reroute the PCi-e cables in the same grommet but above the card...

Same here. Mine looks messily neat. I don't have enough space to put the PCIe cables behind the mobo tray, so I just tucked them behind the drives. Looks okay, and keeps sag down to a minimum.

You could push the 6-pin cables on top of the hard drive cage to offer some support.

Ah, I see your suggestion.

Hmm... that could work but it wouldn't be as aesthetically pleasing.

I think the fishing line might be my best bet.

Yea for sure. In my old case it worked perfectly for my Asus 7970 (That card was a brick) but i can see how it would look out of place in your situation.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's a problem with all long cards as the PCI-E slot can only support so much.

Go to your local Lego Store and buy a bunch of black 1x4 or 2x4 bricks and use that. That's what I do.

In the right case, you won't even be able see it either. Can you spot it in mine? http://m.imgur.com/a/0Nh4V

I'm actually pleasantly surprised about how nicely that turned out! Good job!
