My friend has a walmart computer and wants to build a new pc, I said he could buy this build:

His walmart PC:  http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=AM3470G-UW10P-FB-R

He only has like 400$ atm, I said he could order the graphics card first and use it in his current build.

The computer he has now has a 300watt PSU, and the TDP of the 7870 ghz is ~175watts, and his cpu takes around 60 tdp. In theory would it work?

In theory, yes, but I wouldn't try to run a graphics card off of a 300 watt power supply, simply because pre-builts tend to have terrible power supplies. It might not even have the two 6 pins you need, though that problem can be solved with enough molex to PCI adapters and a bunch of molex connectors.

Yea I'm unsure about it too, coz it's probably not 80 plus, and yea the molex to pci was what I was gonna tell him to use.

I think he'll only have to use this for like 2 weeks until he gets money, I don't think it can hurt anything but I'm unsure

It looks like it has an 80+ badge on the side of it in the pictures on the product page.

I personally wouldn't try it, but I'm paranoid about stuff like that. I think it's better to be safe and wait until he can build the better system.

The link's not working for me but you could get a 7950 with a new psu with $400.
