Hello,

Last weekend I had some free time so I decided to overclock my CPU. The CPU is the FX 6300. I wanted to get it up too 4.5 GHz and leave it at that. However it didn't go as planed. The maximum stable overclock that I managed go achieve was 4.1 GHz (no Turbo core ofc.) That aside I wanted to upgrade my GPU to an 970 (currently I have a GTX 760) but I have heard some rumors that the 970 is bottlenecked by the FX 6300. Therefore I want to upgrade one of the two components CPU (the CPU to an intel 4690k or FX8350) and GPU (to a 970).

If you have some advise, that would be great. Thank you for your time.

I can upgrade one of the two. The question here is first the 970, which is probably going to be bottlenecked by the 6300 (so I've heard) or go an with a new CPU and get the 970 some time in the future.

Oh I see, I would rather have a 970 bottleneck by the 6300, than stick with a 760,

Yep.

Do you have aftermarket cooling for the FX 6300?

If you don't, get something like a 212 evo.

Also, if you want to save a little $$$, get an R9 290.

Also I the 970 is cheaper here in my county (no idea why).

OK I will upgrade the GPU. I will try to sell my 760 so I can buy the intel board too. Any specific board you recommend ? MicroATX or ATX, it doesn't really matter.

Buy the CPU and motherboard at once, not separately. Ask again when you have the money for both.
