Hey all,
So it's finally time for an upgrade from a 2.9GHz i5 second generation on a motherboard that supports up to 8GB of RAM and build a PC myself.

Here's what I'm looking to work with. I'm planning on salvaging the HDD and RAM from my current build which I've checked the RAM for compatibility and I *think* it's fine. Any help would be great though!

Motherboard: Asus Z97 Deluxe // http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00K80MS66/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1KNJ9OIDK4RPK&coliid=I2WBQ0QMK4U9CD
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k // http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KPRWAX8/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1KNJ9OIDK4RPK&coliid=I2WJJGBMCHN9MD
RAM: 2x Crucial 4GB DDR3 PC3-10600 // http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-PC3-10600-SODIMM-Memory-Module/dp/B0061RO5H0
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 // http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009XLMYJC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1KNJ9OIDK4RPK&coliid=I394C4YIWZ64JO
Power Supply: Corsair CS 430W // http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ALYP208/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1KNJ9OIDK4RPK&coliid=I31MQW2TYTVP1&psc=1

I have a graphics card but all I need it to do is run two monitors, that's an upgrade for when I have more money to put a better one in with a more beefy power supply.

What i5 do you currently have? (2310?), what are you doing with it -- gaming/editing, and what gpu do you have?

More than likely the i5 you currently have is still fine.

My current i5 is a 2310 yeah.

I'm a student so lots of multitasking, bit of editing in places with Photoshop and web coding.

This is the GPU: http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-520

Best thing ever right?

Well, if your main intention is gaming, I'd leave the cpu/mobo alone and just upgrade the gpu.

I think for just one GPU the Mobo is way to much, you could just get a cheaper Z97.

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

Update Plans: Mini ITX this bitch

I'm looking to have plenty of room to upgrade, I'm hoping to go SLI in the new year and jump to a three monitor setup

Ok, then go for it.
