I am trying to install windows for the first time and it is asking me for the driver for the cd\dvd drive in my system. i found the model and googled for the driver and when i try to transfer via flash drive, it says the driver is invalid and im not able to continue with the installation. what should i do? can i skip this step somehow since my dvd drive is working properly(im using windows from an installation disc.)? thanks in advance. heres a screenshot

You probably just need to unpack the driver. Usually when you download drivers it will be an MSI or EXE but it will be looking for an inf file. That said, I have never seen a DVD drive not show up in the Windows Installer... Are you using an installation disc that came with a specific manufacturer computer? I ask because Dell for example might include a DVD with their systems stripped of all drivers save for those used by devices found inside Dell's. If you're using a retail copy of the Windows 7 DVD or a generic OEM disc it should have generic PnP drivers for pretty much any DVD drive.
