Hey guys

I was wondering if I should get a EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX 2.0

  • Base Clock 1165 MHz
  • Boost Clock 1317 MHz

Or if I should pay the extra 50$ for a EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0

  • Base Clock 1216 MHz
  • Boost Clock 1367 MHz

I mean what difference does it make? Is it big, small or about the same performance? Is it worth paying the extra 50$?

I have chosen EVGA, because they have been making good GPU's, and I know that they are most likely to fit Waterblocks when ever they come. This is usually the case :)

My setup: i5 3570K  - Corsair H100i - MSI Z77 GD65 - 256 GB Samsung 840 pro SSD - Corsair AX760i - Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 2GB - 4x4 GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer RAM - Corsair Carbide 500R (modded side window)

Tiny difference.

Okay, so in your opinion it's not worth it?

Not worth the performance gain unless you like the cooler change to the value of $50 :P

Well, I can't really see any difference, might be the same cooler on the two :P

You can get the same overclock in 20 seconds :P Not worth it IMHO.

Okay, thanks

The difference besides the clock speed is that the FTW model uses an updated, slightly superior cooler. I've also read that it's much quieter as it uses an updated BIOS for 0Db fan mode, but apparently a lot of the EVGA 970s suffer from bad coil whine irrespective of fans.

Oh really, never heard anything like that from EVGA, might have to re-think what to get now, thanks for the heads-up :)

Looks like it might be a common problem with the 970 http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-Cards/GeForce-GTX-970-Coil-Whine-Concerns
