Yes, I'm certain the desktop gaming pc will still be around, what would replace it?

Because everything is getting smaller and faster. In 30 years we will probably be able to carry 30 inch infinite pixel displays along with our ridiculously fast computers in our pocket.

RIP in pepperonis m8s

30 years is wayyyy too far to predict something like this... maybe start with 10? xD

Well if you'd ask me 30 years? probably the whole house will act like an computer and you'd have something to carry around that connects to it while you can access the main computer (the house) processing power and stream it over your carry-on device... seeing as how wifi and free internet and network keeps going faster and faster and compression and streaming is getting better and better this would probably be the case...

Now to be more specific what is computer made of/based off? Well since silicon days are pretty soon gona be over... Quatum might be the way... althought 30 years is long time for something else better to come....

PLEASE QUOTE OR TAG (WITH @) ME IF YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT ME TO REPLY!!!!!!!

Also if your issue is solved don't forget to mark the thread as solved!
Peace!!! from a random person in the tech's god forsaken land (named Finland or as I like to call it sarcastically FUNland)

I doubt it, with devices like NVIDIA Grid, and tech like Google Glass, Oculus, and Augmented reality, I bet all processing will be done in the cloud, and we have wearing displays/smart watches,/ glasses displays etc

You hit a few points that need to happen. Besides the capabilities of computers themselves, infrastructure needs to drastically improve. High speed fiber, new standards/protocols for wifi and other groundwork needs to be laid to really take advantage of the inevitable growth of data being transferred.

As far as computers themselves go, we are almost at the limit of silicon. Quantum computing is promising, but still a huge challenge. I think until quantum computing is fully commercialized, there should/could be a different material other than silicon that we could use as a 'stop-gap.' What that material is, I have no idea. If it was easy, it would have already been done...

I can see quantum computing advancing hugely, even by 2030, I can see quantum computers being used widely in research. But really, know knows?

Intel's roadmap shows 5nm by 2021 which is only 7 years away and by that stage, the transistors will only be ~10 atoms wide. By then that's probably the end to silicon advances IMO, considering how the chips are made, they just won't be able to keep it precise enough.

Just my opinion, so it may well turn out to be complete BS whenever this stuff does or doesn't come

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

*If I say something that seems offensive, please don't take it seriously, it was most likely meant as a joke/sarcastically*
