I'd go Intel. Simply because it's a newer processor. If you want more cores then get a Xeon.

If you're running @ 1080p, then the 290 is more than enough.

Couple of things

First of all, you don't need a full sized ATX case if you're not water cooling, and if you're gonna go with an i5, spend a little more for a k series CPU, and if it hurts your budget, it'd probably be fine to scale back to a 285x ( I think that's the next step down, could be wrong) also, from personal experience Windforce cards can be really noisy.

ya the windforce 290 usually on load runs 70-80 degrees around 80% fan but its quiter then the power color pcs+, and the 280x is only 30 $ cheaper so idk

id like to but dont have the $$ right now im on a strict budget of 1k but if i can stay below that, thats great. ill probably get an ssd later with maybe a i7 in the future when the i5-4590 is no longer keeping up
