Looking to get a SSD to add to my rig. I've always gotten refurbished things like phones, headsets, keyboards, and other electronics but im not sure if getting a refurbished computer component is a good idea or not.

You guys have any thoughts on this?

Reason i ask is because this seemed like a good buy for being a refurb. But I could be TOTALLY wrong lol

Refurbs can be products got returned that never even got used or a defective product that had to be repaired.

Refurbished products are really a gamble, and I always tend to lose the gamble so...

I purchased a 840 Evo Refurn from Tiger Direct and have had no problems with it, I had more problems with the brand new HyperX 3k I had before. I'd buy refurb everything but cooling, PSUs and mechanical drives.

I've bought a couple of refurbished laptops and they all have worked fine.

Sometimes they items were never even used just sent back to fix a recall or bug then sold as refurbed.

I'm not sure what refurbed means. Did they DO anything? You don't know. If it was dead returned stock then it's fine but if there were problems that were "fixed" I'd be wary.

That said, it's an ok buy at best. There's better units out there for similar prices. Look at the MX100 256gb. Price per GB will be close and the MX100 is brand new. Also look for other sales. Ssd's are really hot right now and there's always a deal or two around. Look at the controller and the IOPS of the drive and watch out for that "up to" phrase like which is on that Corsair page. No, give me the actual numbers for *that* drive please. When they start doing that crap, run away.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!

also, from all the ones that i saw on this page they all seem to say "up to" so i dont see why that would scare you away.
