Birthday build for dad.

Hey guys, my parts arrived today. Thanks to you.

But OT. My dad's birthday is coming up and me and my sister wanted to build a new pc because he is running some compaq laptop. So i need your help. I was wondering if we should get a penitum for now. And get a lot of high end parts and upgrade to broadwell "k" in Q2. He plays steam games, he likes to edit a lot of family pictures dont know what software though. And he is a web designer. Dreamweaver won't use a lot of cores since hes laptop does it smoothly ( i tested it). Don't have a budget set in mind.

do you mean the pentium G chip? are you wanting a full build or just advice on the CPU?

I think an i3 would suit him really well.  Or a locked i5.  Broadwell isn't a true upgrade to haswell/DC, it only brings 3% performance gains.

The g3258. I just want advice. If i should get a pentium with other high end stuff like liquid, rm series psu... Etc... And upgrade him to a broadwell later

Would skylake be compatible with z97? Its more a of a gpu upgrade

liquid as in watercooling? if so, no, not with that chip, it should be fine for what he needs just OC the hell out of it and get a nice cooler EVO 212 or something , the skylake (edit) is a 1151 Skt so i dont think current M/B's will support it as the z97 are 1150 =/

not really worth it unless your going to upgrade the cpu later a nice air cooler will be fine

The pentium will perform rly badly. It's good at gaming, similar to an i3 yeah but for web development etc an i3 would destroy it.

 

P.S. Web development is fairly demanding depending on what you do. I'd be surprised if he didn't notice a difference of even a pentium vs an i3.

 

But yeah I think the pentium as a temp chip till broadwell but broadwell is only going to be 3% faster so you may aswell go devils canyon unless you want broadwells really improved igpu/need to save cash.
