I'd love to buy up refurb parts off ebay & build PCs to sell, I'm not really into it for the profit, but it would be a nice way to get a little bit of spending money on the side.

While we're a bunch of tech enthusiasts, I still know plenty of people who a core 2 quad + HD 5850 rig would be a massive upgrade for.

Now, I'm obviously going to be honest and label the pc as a refurb unit (that is basically what refurb computers are anyway, the manufacturer finds working parts from returns and puts them together to form working pcs, ex: 8 broken PS2s means 7 working ones)

anyway, I dont have the time for a full job, not even part time. (I'm a junior, and all my classes are AP. so yeah, I have little time.) but I get free-time on fridays.

Anyway, I've been noticing obscure parts on ebay, that still preform quite well when you show them some love, but they're dirt cheap.

Core 2 quad Q8200 - Comonly $25, can be overclocked by alot, and keeps pace with the phenom II clock for clock.

HD 5850 - Seriously, this is too overlooked. It can easily keep up with a 260X after a mild overclock, and costs like $40

DDR2 Ram - here's the kicker, $35 for 8 gigs. remember when DDR3 was that cheap? I miss those days too.

Intel 530 240 GB SSD - Seriously, these are selling for $50, 'Nuff said.

Motherboards to run all this hover at $30, and nice ones too.

Add a case & decent power supply for $50 total, and we have ourselves a decent rig for $230.

I add $20, and sell it.

Now, it's nothing amazing to look at from a high end perspective, but imagine yourself with a cruddy old laptop looking to get into gaming, but you cant invest much money.

Think there's a market for this?

It's not to terrible of an idea. You can get a 7970 for around 130$ on ebay if you look right. 150$ average.

Also, I suggest the i7-920. Round 30-40$ on ebay

LGA 1366 motherboards are extremely expensive for some reason.

Set up something like a ma's and pa's store...

That's how they sell back-stock here... Heck, I think I can still get hold of a brand new pre-HT P4 if I look hard enough...

Considering the thousands of Pre-built (by people like us) PCs on ebay, there must be a market somewhere. Not too sure if there will me a massive market for refurbs though. Could try craigslist etc.

if I do go through with this, I could use a good brand name.

The specs will be the same every time, but the parts would vary.

Like, it will always be a Q8200, but the motherboard might change.

It will always be an HD 5850, but the brand might change.

Do you think that would be fine?

I know. But so is ddr2. I find that if you look, you can find decent deals on 1366 boards. the i7-920 is great, and with an overclock is still relevant. Would be a higher tier version of what you are talking about with a 7970, so itll cost slightly more.

But you have to spend like $200 on LGA 1366 motherboard. It's because motherboards fail way more often than CPU's so there is a surplus of 1366 chips and not many 1366 motherboards in comparison.

You can find them for under 100$. Not as cheap as what he's suggesting, but the cheapest i7 solution you'll get. also server 1366 boards are a lot cheaper and quad core 8 thread xeons are like 15$ if a simple workstation is all you want. Not really good for gaming though as they are locked to ~ 3ghz with the max overclock.

Now all I gotta do is convince my parents to let me go through with this.

I have the cash to start this, but I need their permission to start buying and selling.

I strongly suggest as-is for your first few systems. Also keep in mind ebay fucks sellers. Buyers can scam you and get away with it.
