So I've had this laptop for quite a bit of time now, and it heats up pretty quickly and stays hot. Would cracking this guy open and reapplying thermal paste help? please note that the thermal paste has never been changed.

In some cases yes.

At most like a 4 degree drop, unless it was really crappy thermal paste.

my feeling is that it is haha, not to put down Vaio or anything, not that it matters because they dont exist anymore, but the model is very old.

Have you cleaned out the fans and air ducts already?

If you haven't, those might be your problem.

Edit: and Vaios tend to be slim. Thermal throttling is sometimes the norm on laptops that sacrifice cooling for looks.

Yeah I cleaned them out last time I cracked it open to take a closer look at my broken usb ports.
