Hey guys!

So, first semester at college is wrapping up, and I can't shake this feeling like I'm doing nothing with my life - which obviously sucks. Then, during one of my rants about how, and I'm going to go ahead and speak for a lot of us on LTT, we consistently overestimate the average intelligence of the world (this particular rant was due to Home Depot's loss of 53 million credit card numbers ), some of my friends joked about me being an activist (we had just watched Pride a couple days ago, its not out everywhere yet but if you can you should see it, absolutely stunning film).

Anyways, activism! I started to think about what being activist would entail and how it would benefit me. Sat down with some pen and paper and started to write out some basic ideas and whatnot, talked to a couple friends, then BAM! FreeKeys was born. FreeKeys will be a non-profit for the advancement of the internet's power for good. I've chosen the internet because over the past few years we have seen a lot of attention drawn to the internet because of bills being proposed by the FCC. Mainly, all of our profits will be donated to Fight for the Future.

I'm here to ask for your help LTT. Please, if you have the time, post to this thread about how the internet has had an immense positive influence in your life. For me, the internet has been an incredible resource of information for me; without the internet, my education would not be nearly as in depth as it is today. Your stories will help me start up a domain name and lay the framework for this non profit.

Thank you in advance for everyone who contributes to this. I love all of the LTT community and you guys are the best.

yes this is true the FCC is a dick and they continue to compramise our internet along with the nsa. Now that obama is pro net neutrality we might actually have a chance to begin to turn this around out of this downwards spiral

Please follow your topics guys, it's very important! CoC F.A.Q  Please use the corresponding PC part picker link for your country USA, UK, Canada, AustraliaSpain, Italy, New Zealand and Germany

also if you find anyone with this handle in games its most likely me so say hi

The internet is my final sanctuary...

I feel like I'm close to the end. Something bad is about to happen soon... Put an end to my misery. The internet fuels my addiction.

How internet influenced my life O.o

Before being active online: As soon as getting home, i would eat and go out to hang out/play with my friends (usually a full day, i'd only go home to eat, sleep and prepare for school... And occasionally do homework/study for school). We did a lot of stuff together (like throwing powerful firecrackers at another school's janitor....), and played a lot :)

After finding how useful internet is (and reading manga/watching anime on it is): As soon as getting home, i get the food, eat in front of my laptop while watching anime/movies/TV series'es. I don't go out nearly as much, and my social life is 98% dead...

If you want any more info, quote me :)

Internet advanced the death of my social life (but wasn't the reason why my social life is non-existent, the actual reason is being bullied), but without it, I would be a very ignorant little sh*t, who knows nothing about anything, and doesn't realize that I'm stupid as hell. Internet has made me a lot better as a person, I acknowledge other people more and I care more about others than I care about myself. After the internet took a place in my life, I no longer haven't been racist like how a lot of people are in here, and I have gone to be less and less annoying person for others.

Internet also has allowed me to learn a lot of things that I'm really interested about. Not everything can be learned locally say from a school or a library. A lot of my free time goes on internet though, but who doesn't spend loads of time on the internet nowadays?

TL;DR: Internet has influenced my life a lot, has given me huge loads of knowledge, and made me a lot better person than I used to be

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

True, but the problem is that there's almost nobody from the same country on the forums i am... There're people on local forums, but i don't like them (people really tend to be short-sighted...)... The only one from my country, that i know of, on this forum is @Bogica, and i haven't even met the guy... There's no one else...

So, i can't call forums (or internet for that matter) socializing if i don't go out and see them in person

There are a couple of other cool dudes from Bosnia and Croatia here too. :D

But as you said, local forums are full of ahort sighted ignorant people and there is no changing that :/

And on topic, I played WoW for 4 years, great experience that killed my social life, when I entered high school I quit WoW, let's just say I'm now in college with a great social life, had a couple of GF(which was impossible before) and I've lost 20kg so I look decent now xD

The internet is a tool at our disposal, the problems start when we overuse. I've had days where I sepnt 24/7 online and I've had days when I didn't boot my pc for days. :)

Also @thatguyjerry, internet did help me :D Using internet i learned stuff i would've never learned, and my english became worlds better than it originally was :)

Just make it sound like they are missing out, be confident about it, I mean it's not like Pc gaming is my hobby gets them horny xD Or don't mention it, just like I don't mention that I watch anime xD

The internet is awesome, fixed my grammar, teamspeak with the guild gave me more experience with speaking English and a ton of tutorials taught me a lot. Before that I would watch a lot of Discovery channel because I'm always curious on how everything works. :D

I definitely share the same curiosity. Granted gaming was how I got into computers in the first place, but that initial curiosity opened the door to a world of information  :D

I was like that at first, keeping quiet, but in the second year of high-school, i decided that i won't hide it (lol, it's like i'm talking about homosexuality) and that if they can't tolerate that about me, then i don't care...
