  1. I would have to say it comes down to personal choice. For me it was Mint, although, to be fair, I've used Kubuntu for a short amount of time and found nothing wrong with it. A friend uses Kubuntu daily due to having to run Android studio on an underpowered laptop and Kubuntu works much better than Windows, however, that does not mean Mint won't work the same, I think it is just Windows telemetry and background tasks hogging the resources. I think you can't go wrong with either. I would suggest you run both in VMs and see what you like more.
  2. Exactly, which is outside my planned budget, I see you have a 9060 XT, what is your experience like?
  3. Hey all, I am looking into upgrading my aging AMD RX 6600 8GB considering the upcoming Battlefield 6, Ghost of Yotei, GTA, etc. My setup is as follows: System CPU AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D RAM 64GB - 4 x 16gb 3200MHz ddr4 GPU AMD RX6600 Display(s) LG 27" 4K Cooling Dark Rock Pro 4 Operating System Mint + Win 11 When I run games I typically run them at 1440p instead of the screens max 4K resolution. So far the RX6600 has server me well and even managed to run the Battlefield 6 Beta at a comfortable frame rate. I am not obsessed with running everything maxed out, I am perfectly fine with running games at High/Medium, I would just not go for Low settings as they usually sacrifice too much. The PSU is 700W but I forgot the brand, it is a good brand one and I do have 2x8 pin on it, so the power limit is not an issue. I use Mint for day to day stuff and Win 11 for gaming and some software that is tied to Windows, so Linux compatibility is important to me as I want to phase Windows out entirely over the next 1-2 years. I am waging between the AMD RX 9060 XT 16GB and the 5060 Ti 16GB, with recommendations for other GPUs welcome and also I would love to hear some brand recommendations. For AMD I usually used to get Sapphire and for Nvidia EVGA (I know EVGA no longer makes Nvidia GPUs). There is also the pricing dilemma, I can get the 9060 for about 350-370 euro, as for the 5060 Ti I would have to spend 420-440e, which I don't think is worth the price difference, but I am always open to proving me wrong as I could be not considering things. All advice is welcome and thank you!
  4. Hi everyone, I was thinking of replacing mine and my wife's phone. I've considered many brands and deal, even considering the iPhone 17. Slightly over 2 years ago we got a S23 (for me) and a S21 FE (for my wife). Generally we were both happy with our purchases, however, I was not too happy about the S21 FE performance, especially when we were recording some fireworks (1080p 60fps) and her S21 FE had some stuttering. Fast forward to today, batteries on both phones had gone down, especially noticeable on my S23, on an intense day I would have to charge it mid day. So here is where we get to my point. I've been looking into quite a few phones over the past month, but could not make or break, I love the Samsung UI and camera and didn't feel like moving away from it, my wife does not care that much but prefers Samsung. The prices in my country for the S25 are around 550-600e for the base model. I was considering the iPhone 17 but in the EU it is 950e, and in my country even 1050e for the base model. So 2x S25 base model ~ 1100-1200e iPhone 17 x2 ~ 2000e I got an offer today which I jumped on, it was a base S25 for 860e, however, you get an S25 FE for free with it as a deal. I got the S25 with the FE being delivered in a month. The deal is straight from Samsung, so no worries about legitimacy. Her S21 FE will be handed down, while I plan to sell my S23 for around 280e. This brings the cost of replacement of both our phones to about 580e. Was this a good deal? What are your thoughts on the S25 FE?
  5. I would just add - Make sure your table is thick enough, I've had a cheap table and the exact same mount/monitor stand, however, the table I had at the time was too thin. Should this happen to you as well, just go and get a piece of wood and screw it in properly to achieve optimal thickness of the table, make sure to screw the new piece of wood underneath the table so it does not ruin the aesthetics, if you can use a larger piece of wood to cover more of the table for better stability. Do not tighten any of the arms down until you mount the monitors properly, only then tighten things down when you get them in a desired position. Make sure there is enough room between your wall and your table, as those arms of the monitor stand, when folded and pushed back, can end up hitting the wall. Good luck and take it easy, take your time mounting this and no rush, enjoy!
  6. The 200 series does address this, you can look it up online, it essentially doubles the battery life of the 100 series and places it up there where the Macs are. However, not sure on the lid closed performance, I would not expect Mac levels of battery drain simply because Windows. However, unless it is days with lid closed, I would say it would be fine.
  7. Hi, I would stay away from anything that has ARM and Windows, I feel like if the market does not pick up fast that MS will just abandon things and move forward. This is not the first attempt of Windows on ARM. Also, I am afraid she will use some older software and it will simply not run on the Surface. At the end I would play it safe and go with the second option, but that is just me and for my family I prefer safe, hassle free choices, while I would not mind the Surface for myself. Hope this helps!
  8. I have experience with both brands, but a lot more experience with UGREEN, still waiting for anything of theirs I bought over the past 6-7 years to die. I am no going to vouch that they are the best, but they are very reliable. I think you can't go wrong with either, but look into the discounts coming in the following days and just buy what suits your needs/budget the best.
  9. I think it can, I saw it has the compatibility and it has good VRM cooling. I will look up the exact model later today when I am home. What is a reasonable price for a 5950X? I think I can find it for ~320-350 euro in Serbia. Makes sense, I used HDDs for file storage and I installed a few games on them, but I did not notice any issues there, the main program files and development stuff is all on the 1TB SSDs. Perhaps even RAID them if the board supports it? Yes, it is a laptop build essentially with a motherboard and that is it. It also requires a 120mm cooler attached to it on top (comes with mounting brackets) I just saw that it has really good single and multi core performance when cooled properly but it still hits 80c often which I must admin I am not a fan of. From what I saw in the GPU department, an RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is the bare minimum for Ai fine tuning, those go for around 450e here, however I see that the 4060 is considered a bad purchase and the 4070 works much faster but is limited to 12GB VRAM. Should I wait for next gen GPUs from Nvidia and just upgrade the CPU to a 5800x/5900x/5950x? Thank you all for your help once again!
  10. Budget (including currency): Not set, but I would like to stay budget friendly ~ 700 euro. Country: Serbia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Programming (Python, Java, microservices, k8s, containers, etc.), some occasional gaming, occasional Ai workloads (research and possibly fine-tuning) Other details: Existing parts lists: - Asus B450 mATX AM4 board with WiFi + BT - can't remember model - Ryzen 5 5600 with Dark Rock Pro 4 cooler - 2 x 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz - Sapphire RX 6600 8GB - 2 x 1TB NVMe (Kingston and Samsung 980 for Win 11 & Ubuntu) - 2 TB WD Black HDD + NAS 4x4 TB for storage - PSU 750W Gold rated - Dual 1920x1200 monitors + occasionally connecting to a 4K monitor - For work/programming I use MBP 16" M3 Max, 64GB, 1TB but this is a work machine, the company owns it, but I am looking for this level responsiveness and performance (or close to it) Whether any peripherals are needed: None needed What you're upgrading from: Mentioned in the existing parts list When you're going to buy: In the next 2 months What resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Dual 1920 x 1200, sometimes single 4K Hey all, From the above mentioned I plan to change to AM5 and I do not plan to upgrade the GPU now, most likely Q2 2025 is when I will upgrade it. I know I can't do Ai workloads on the existing one apart from loading models and making the interact with RAG - which is what I am doing now. I found the BD790i to be a nice upgrade, right now it is 511 euro in Germany (I travel there for business and could buy it there) and about 180e for 2 x 32GB RAM 5600MHz SODIMM. I am wondering if this is a good upgrade path. I do not upgrade often - my rig right now is a Ryzen 5 5600, before that Ryzen 5 1600AF and before that Ryzen 3 1200. I can upgrade to whatever is needed but I feel like I should not be going over the top and keep the entire upgrade under 700 euro as much as possible. My company does not care that I use the M3 Max MBP for personal use and they made that statement to all of us, but if I change companies I will be stuck without a good development machine, also future company may have a locked down laptop and have it strict for business use (which is reasonable and standard practice). Thank you all and hope you have a wonderful day!
  11. That's gold right there! He can even OC the CPU if needed, the RX 580 packs a MUCH bigger punch than a 3GB 1060.
  12. Good job figuring it out. I was starting to wonder what the problem was, sounded strange.
  13. It's an m.2 SSD? You didn't mention that part. Do you have sufficient lanes for it? Is it properly pligged in and secure? Please double check everyhing. As worst case scenario you might have to RMA it.
  14. At which point did I say that he should read the software readings? I said he should check it by MEASURING which indicates that I meant he should use a multimeter, it's standard equipment for any household, even cheap chinese ones are capable of reliably measuring low voltage DC. While I do have one, I'm guessing Oscilloscopes aren't that common outside of workshops? But, I agree on the ripple part, however, one of the first indicators of possible failure is voltage dropping under load. However, I don't know which brand that is, I have never even heard of them, so I'm not sure if they are reliable or not.
  15. Yup, no matter how good it was, due to it's age I wouldn't use it. You can check how good it is by measuring the voltage while it is under load, if the 12v falls under 11.85v consider it useless, however, it should keep at around 12v at all times. Any branded 450W PSU is more than enough for a 2200G.
