So, what is gonna happen to tablets and laptops

Okay, judging by sales figures tablets sales are falling, and I just had this thought. If tablets are getting replaced by larger smartphones, won't this mean smartphones will be the only devices we will ever need. But, smartphones won't go over 6'' (unless someone makes a jeans pocket that is able to hold huge devices!), and we still a large screen for productivity and this means that laptops are here to stay. But, I heard laptops are losing sales too.

So, what the heck is happening?

No. There are so, so so many things I can't do well on a smartphone. It's useful to a point but it can never replace a laptop in terms of doing work on the road, or any kind of multi tasking.

As for the phones won't go over 6" statement, that was already wrong a couple of years ago. They have.

They're losing sales because we don't need to replace them as often. Something bought 2 or 3 years ago is still very competitive. So, you'll likely see ups and downs every few years as people upgrade their old stuff.

Laptop is more productive so it's here to stay. Tablets and laptops are merging with convertibles though.

Nothing is happening/will happen.

The three types of devices have applications that can not be replaced by the other two.  As gaming becomes more viable on tablets, you will see the numbers increase again.

You can buy a ipad/nexus device and it'll last you quite awhile because of the workloads they do.

Laptops have many more workloads and need to be replaced more often depending on the workloads you deal with.

Are sales really declining though?

How often do you upgrade your laptop to something new? I personally upgrade every 3-5 years, and I know I'm certainly not the only one who does that. And if you consider the type of demands put on tablets (web browsing/email/etc...) there really is no compelling reason to upgrade annually.

But, how are new tablet buyers going, is it still compiling for someone to go and buy a tablet for the first time nowadays.

Not very often. Sure it's nice to have a tablet to look up stuff ect but it get's to a point where it becomes tedious and not as productive compared to a laptop/computer. I never really liked tablets to be honest.
