Hello there,

My friend wants to get a new rig for Christmas, but we have some issues...

The prices WILL be different, since we are from Czech Republic, Europe. I have to point out, that many products might not be able to be purchased at all.

We have a budget of ~$1300. He wants to game, with some streaming, but no heavy video editing. Right now he is not interested in any "new" game, but this may change with any announced game.

First off, I was thinking about i5 4460 with R9 280x, but I got over limit (so I would have to cut down on something like SSD or aftermarket cooler - I hate boxed ones). Than I tried FX 8320 with R9 280x, still got over the limit, but leaving "only" SSD behind would put me right into budget.

Than he got an idea - He has currently an Phenom X2 955, so we might be able to use it for his new rig -> but I am not really sure about CPU bottleneck.

By doing this, he would be able to get a GTX 970 (with new MotherBoard - compatibility issues, upgradeability), or R9 280X (with an SSD, without compromises).

Note that he is able to get more money next summer, so he would be able to upgrade than.

What do you think is the best choice?

(If you want a list of all planned components, just tell me)

Thanks for all your help

Can he just get an FX-6300 with an R9 280X? There won't be any bottlenecks to worry about and you'll be well within budget.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Well I wanted to buy stuff from Czech markets -> the pricings will be definitely higher.

Since I live pretty far from him, he just wanted to know the components, while having it built right while purchasing (there are these "choose your components, we will build it" options here), so any of your listed markets are not gonna be as planned.

And FX-6300 with R9 280X would not be exactly in the budget as well, but it would be with stock cooler.

Build it yourself if you have the tools and capabilities. Just got to know exactly where things go and all you will ever need is a screwdriver set. Literally. It will be a lot cheaper and you will feel a little more proud of your own build. Its not too late to learn before christmas ;)
