Massive HDD Usage?

So my system has a problem with the system resource in task manager as well as Eset Antivirus just chew up my HDD. It causes my games to lag and basically causes the whole computer to lag. I don't think its a problem with the HDD I prob just have too many background tasks running on a HDD so I was wondering if I should get a SSD and just put my OS and one or two games on it? I would like to buy two 480/512GB and put them in RAID 0 for 1TB of storage for everything but I don't think I have the money.

 

 

What do you think the problem is and should I just buy an SSD?

If you bought an SSD you should be doing a clean install anyway.

 

The problem that you are having happens when you clone your OS to a different drive.

This is why I always tell people to not clone their HDD to their new SSD because this exact problem happens in the near future. Sadly not everyone listens...

OH GOD, 3-4 yrs ago. I had a 500GB HDD that had win 7, win 8 tech prev, windows 8, win 8.1, and finally win 10 tech preview (Between win 8.1 and win 10 I cloned to a 1TB drive)

Its about time you did a clean install :P Thats probably the only thing that will fix your problem.

 

If you want, you can take this chance to upgrade your drive to an SSD so that you only have to do a clean install once.

Because if you clean install to your current drive, then decide to upgrade to an SSD in a year then you would be doing another clean install.

 

I found it more convenient when I upgraded my SSD at the same time I needed a clean install, so I could just put windows on the SSD, boot from the SSD, then drag all my files over from my HDD through windows.

Nope just files.

Reinstalling all the programs is part of doing a clean install.

 

Lately what I have been doing is filling one folder with all my program and driver installers, so that when I do my next clean install all I have to do is drag that folder over and click all the things to install my programs. This saves me time from having to find the right drivers on google and downloading them.

The Intel 530 240GB is only $109 right now. Not the best drive anymore but its defiantly the best in that price range
