laptop freezes

scorro

Hi everyone,

Recently my laptop has started to freeze and lag. I have done a fresh install of windows, redownloaded all the latest drivers, and done memorytest86 on the ram both together, then seperately and they all passed. Yet still it freezes at least once a day. I was wondering what tools would i be able to use to test for cpu and gpu stability?

the specs of the laptop are:
intel core i7 3720qm @ 2.6 ghz

16 gb ram (2 sticks)

a 500 gb intel ssd (under hardware manager it says SSDSC2CW480A3)
gforce 675m

windows 7 professional 64 bit

if you could help me out that would be awesome. I've looked at a lot of forums and its getting really confusing.

Though your RAM passed, please try taking out one stick. If it continues to freeze, swap the sticks to test the other one.

i have done all the possibilities for testing my ram. I did both together one by one and also one by one in different slots and they all passed. I did at least 2 passes with most of them doing 3 passes through memtest86 and no errors came up. So im not sure if it has to do with my cpu, gpu motherboard bios or just the software im using which i did reinstall again. :C

Have a look at this :  http://www.ocbase.com/

If you can a BIOS update may help...but you may just need to narrow down the points when the system freezes..ie: when you are online, when you enter/exit sleep mode, when you plug in a USB device..etc

When you reboot ..does the OS know it has recovered from a forced shut down.?

Can you track what processes are running..http://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

A great way to thin your system down is with this : http://www.glarysoft.com/glary-utilities/  OR this : http://bleachbit.sourceforge.net/

Of course a malware/rootkit and virus check should be done as well...

Your best effort is the easiest thing to give to someone else..
