So I have a Asus Maximus VI Hero and I believe I have the 1301 BIOS version, I lost my flash drive so I don't currently have that for use. I want to update my BIOS so I can work on some more fine tuning of my overclock. How can I/is it possible to update without a flash drive? If so is it worth it to do it now or should I wait until I get a new flash drive?

You can but the BIOS file into the root of a HDD/SSD and EZ Flash should be able to pick it up.

You just put the BIOS file into the root of a drive, restart and boot into the BIOS, navigate to EZ Flash and chose the right drive and file.

How do I put a file in the root of the drive?

You just put it onto the drive. Don't put it into a folder or anything.

It's location should be C:\ (any drive letter will do, I just used C as an example)

Don't think it would work. EFI only supports FAT.

OP, what you can do is make a small FAT32 partition of your hard drive and put the BIOS there.

Do I have to create a new partition for that?

Well, you don't have a flash drive, so yes. Open Disk Management and take about 2GB (2048MB) off your C:\ drive, create a new volume and format it as FAT32.

Okay I got it, so I just put the cap file in there and it will be able to recognize that in the easy updater?
