So upgraded my old Asus GTX 660 DC2 to 2x MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G SLI setup. Played and ran benchmarks for an hour or so without any issues and while playing The Witcher 2, the PC just suddenly rebooted with a message that "Asus anti surge prevented something something something.."

My specs:

CPU:Core i7 4790k@ 4,6GHz 1,22volts + Corsair H100i

MB: Asus Z97-AR

RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX 1866MHz DDR3

PSU:Corsair AX760

HDD: MX100 256GB & 840 EVO 1TB, 4TB WD Green

SC: Creative SBZ

OS: Win 8.1 Pro

Any suggestions about the possible source of the problem..?

Took out the GPUs and installed them firmly back in place again. Also made sure the mobo screws weren't loose.

Also, while the shutdown/reboot happened I was in a dark room and my PC was the only thing on at the moment. Could this have been caused by a sudden blackout?

Oh yeah. And my idle temps are something like under 40 and load temps around 70 I think. Will check those again as well.

Yup. Currently using the PC. Ran fire strike again without any problems and played Witcher 2 again without any issues.

Weird.

I'll report back if this issue happens again or if I find any oddities that might be linked to the problem.

It booted again last night. :/

I'm kind of thinking that one of the GPUs might be the culprit, since I took out the other card and the PC shut down again like after 10 minutes of playing with just that one card. Currently testing with the other card to see if it's stable.

Imo it's highly unlikely that the PSU just suddenly broke since before I installed the new GPUs it worked flawlessly, and AX760 is a top quality PSU. The problems started with the installment of the GPUs.

I'll keep you posted on how the situation develops..

Yep. The other GPU is defective and definitely causing the problem. The other one works flawlessly. Played games and ran benchmarks yesterday and left Witcher 2 running throughout the night and it's perfectly stable. If I install the other card the PC reboots withing minutes.

Will RMA it and ask for a replacement.
