Hi! :)

I've made A LOT of research about custom computers, and I think I find what's best for me. But I still don't know which of my two builds should I take. Can anyone give me advice with the CPU? Which is better? Which is faster? Idk about power consumption, what I care is about speed, speed and speed. And of course if it can mantain the speed. And overclockability.

But what about the motherboards? Do they make a difference? Is one more reliable than the other?

Thank you a lot for your answers, I really appreciate it :D

Take the i7 build, i would take it over the i5 build even... the i7 shows dominance in some games over the i5, though they are far and few, the i5 and 980 though is a VERY powerful setup.

-snip-

For speed at that price point, I'd go for the i5, then the i7. i7s perform better, but the i5 is much more cost effective.

If you're gaming, Intel beats AMD in most games, and by a large margin. I don't think 16GB of RAM is necessary, and your PSU is slightly underpowered for the rig you're planning to run - It's enough, but it's cutting it close, especially if you want to OC.

The build posted above would give you better FPS. If you want to cut the cost and you aren't intending to OC, you can cut the watercooler and Z97 board, into an air cooler (Hyper 212 and H97 board)

If he's just gaming the i5 4690K would be more than adequate I think. ;)

out of the two builds you have listed the i7 one is definitely the better choice, for speed and performance by the cpu. but I would get a bigger power supply. Just because all the parts might have a lower rating than 550 it deosnt mean the performance will be great. to make sure your power supply doesnt run hot or have a noisy fan I would advise you to at least get a  650w power supply. and an 80 plus titanium one if you can find it. this is because power supply are not a constant source of powere and they fluctuate on their levels of power output. the higher the rating, the less the power supply does this. in order to get the best performance from your rig you will need a trustworthy power supply. and especially if you get an amd cpu, which suck up power like a mofo. you wont NEED a bigger power supply but to be safe you should get something bigger. and btw, you have no storage in those builds.

Unless he's going to install his OS on a cardboard cutout of an SSD, I think they have!

Good. I'm glad you got it. Storage is exactly what I's hinting at. :D

First, thanks for all the answer!

For the storage, I alreayd bought it ;)

And for the RAM, I do LOT of video editing and recording, and my current CPU can't handle the 1080p 30fps. This is why I need a good cpu, and more ram for the editing.

I don't need a GTX 980, I don't play demanding games. Only LoL, Minecraft, WarZ, Rome 2 Total War, ect.

And Ill only be playing 1080p 60fps, maybe 2k very rarely.

This is why I'm going with 16GB and 4790k or the best CPU of AMD.

And thanks for the advise of z97, ill look at that! :)
