Looking for 1080 monitor

Rexchaos

Hey guys looking for a 1080 monitor. Currently have a dell generic 21 inch.

Have some questions

1) IS it possible to downsample 1080 or 1440/4k resolutions on this >5 dell generic monitor? Has hdmi/vga etc.

2) Since im getting a monitor i'd want a $110 tops monitor. Honestly theres not much difference between a TN/IPS so i'm not really picky, but i heard IPS has better colors, and TN has better times.

3) How would the refresh rates improve your gaming? aka ms times on TN?

Live in the US.

Thanks guys.

EDIT:Going to be running a 970.

Refresh rates are different from response times.

$110 is a difficult price range.

Also, TN and IPS are vastly different.

If you have a 970, could you just dish out the cash for a decent monitor?

2) Spend the extra ten bucks for a good monitor http://pcpartpicker.com/part/acer-monitor-umwg7aa001

3) Refresh rates improve smoothness. ms times (response time) decreases lag between picture rendered by GPU and picture shown on screen. Higher refresh rates are nice but any lower then 6ms response time is not a noticeable difference.

How so? can you explain more in depth? And i can extend it to around 120 if possible. But i'm looking for a model then waiting for black friday sales on it. Arent there nice AOC monitors though? Or are they "shitty"?

That seems to have high ratings, although above my budget i might check it out.

Something like this maybe. Not much above your budget, and it has VESA mounts

        | CPU: Intel Core i3 4130 | GPU: PowerColor R9 270 | Motherboard: Asrock H81M-HDS | RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 4GB |

|HDD: Western Digital 1TB | Case: NZXT Source 210 | PSU: Corsair CX430W |

| Mic: Blue Snowball iCE | Mouse: Corsair K65 RGB | Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Chroma |

Response times are how fast the monitor can display the image after it gets the signal. Usually they are 8ms. With "Gaming" monitors a 5ms.

Refresh rates (EX: 60Hz) are how many frames a monitor can display per second. 60Hz = 60FPS displayable frames.

$150 is dirt cheap. Expect to pay at least that for 1080p.  (~$135)

i would go for it, finding a monitor for $110 or less is quite hard and when you finally do find one, its most likely going to be some knock off brand with no ratings and bad quality. sometimes you end up getting less when you try and limit your budget :P

and to answer the other part of your quote, refresh rate and response times are 2 separate things, maybe this article will help a lil bit: http://www.tweakguides.com/Graphics_8.html

why do you need a thousand and eighty monitors

why do so many good cases only come in black and white

Refrest rates will most definitely give you an edge to someone lets say using a 60hz monitor. Linus has a "Can the average gamer tell the  difference of 60hz and 144hz monitors". That should give you a good idea.

$110 is a tight budget, I'd recommend spending $20 more and getting an Acer H236HLbid or something similar

So in theory if my monitor can show at that resolution, it's possible.

Checked out some reviews of it on amazon, some are complaining about wrong order and cheap build quality, ratings seems to be all over the place imo.

Ah i see. i was looking for this AOC metal brushed one and it looked pretty nice. How good is AOC in terms of gaming and is it a ips or a tn?

Seems pretty solid, however reviews on newegg are pretty fluctuating. Seems like a "silicon monitor draw" now. haha

Its a good monitor, reviews on newegg almost always fluctuate, mostly because 99% of people who get a good monitor can't be bothered to write a review, while 99% of people who get a bad one will most certainly do so.
