If you're not really gaming, AMD is *slightly* better for rendering IMHO

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

sh*t. I should go to bed. I screwed up. Didn't realise that he already had an i5, and in that case I personally don't think upgrading to a 4690k would be worth it

 

I was more or less recommending it on the basis that it was a rendering machine, and he hadn't bought any parts yet for a PC

i meant what in general, intel offer much better chips for rendering when budget isnt a concern :P

95% agree, You can have put a bigger OC in your signature for FX chips, apart from that :P Budget out the window, and with that 18 core xeon coming, Intel is the way ATM

No, unless what you have right now isn't enough for you. If it is, then go for it! A 4790k would help tons

AMD chips are good, but at lower price brackets, is what I find. Above $170, Intel dominates. Love AMD's overclockability, though! OCing on the cheap.

Remember to be a good citizen and choose a 'best answer' when your problem has been resolved!

(that way people know when a problem's been resolved)
