Hi guys,

Recently my GPU (R9 280X) died. A couple of days later I found out that the power supply (Nox Hummer 700W) is the most likely culprite.

I noticed that the 12v rail has a substancial drop in voltage when the gpu is under load (drops to 11.6xV).

In the meantime I haven't been able to use my pc beacause I have a full WC Loop and I didn't want to take it all apart to install intel's stock cooler.

And I don't want to install the replacement card as long as I have this psu (allready ordered a new one).

So my question is this, does the gpu draw power from the pci slot even if it's not hooked up to the power supply?

Because then I could re-fill my loop so that I could work with the gpu in my 3570k and have the card turned off and safe until I get my new PSU.

What do you guys think?

Thank's in advanced,

MoraisGT

Those NOX PSUs are well known for their problems... At least in Portugal...

Disconnect the card from the cables only, that way I think it won't draw power ;)

True Story bro......

Yeah I tried it once a while ago and if the psu cables weren't connected the board showed the slot as empty, so maybe the card doesn't draw power from the pci slot.

I'm goingto wait for a little more feedback, but thank's anyways ;)

P.S: Tugas FTW! lol
