[Eye Catching Title Goes Here] - Personal Rig Update

Jauris

Well, I've got a long history building PCs, but I'll spare you the extremely long post I'd have to make about it. This one will just be focusing on my two most recent. So, here's what my previous setup looked like:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor  ($172.98 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler  ($72.33 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($128.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($86.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Corsair Force Series GT 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (Purchased For $0.00)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Dual-X Video Card  ($264.29 @ Amazon)
Case: Corsair 500R White ATX Mid Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Newegg)

The prices, obviously, aren't quite correct, and neither are some of the parts. I did my best to re-create it, but I carried a lot of stuff over into this one from ANOTHER prior build. I really like the performance I was getting out of this machine, and honestly  I hadn't even considered upgrading until I very fortunately came into some new parts at Quakecon this year. If you've never been, Quakecon is the biggest LAN in North America, and is three straight days of gaming, alchoholism, and panels. It's always a lot of fun, but what really makes it special is the atmosphere. It is almost an entirely volunteer run event, with pretty much just funding and big picture stuff coming in from the bosses at Zenimax (Bethesda & Id). Anyways, I volunteer every year, and I was lucky enough to be entered into (and win) a raffle for a 4770k. This set me up well, and I figured I might as well get to building a sexy new machine with my newly acquired processor.

So, without any further ado, here she is:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($329.94 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($143.79 @ Newegg)
Storage: Corsair Force Series GT 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (Purchased For $0.00)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card  ($364.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: NZXT S340 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($74.99 @ Micro Center)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit)  ($129.94 @ OutletPC)
Keyboard: Das Keyboard Model S Professional Wired Standard Keyboard  ($111.16 @ Mechanical Keyboards)

I wish the pictures could have been of a bit higher quality, but unfortunately my camera (which I believe you can see in the background of #3) is currently dead and needing to be replaced.

So, what do you think?

I like the classic blue and white colour scheme. Now if only a company made LCD monitors with white bezels.

I'm loving it so far. It destroys everything I've even thrown at it even on stock clocks, and it definitely has the cooling power to push it harder. I do wish it had the ability to turn the fans off at low loads though, like the Strix.
