So my question, is the R9 285 by XFX really worth the (current as of when I'm posting this) $220? I know Linus did a review on it a while back about another card ( I think it was a Sapphire) and said it was well worth the $250.

Well I should bring forth some information, I plan on using this card for mostly 1080p gaming and nothing really above that. Not to mention I will be using this card to live stream @ twitch.tv where my plans are to stream in 720p. With that said I was also wondering if the transcoding on this card was any good. Please let me know of what your thoughts are and if you use another variant of the R9 285 please tell me of the performance. If you truly despise Radeon Cards then feel free to rant on about how they are inferior and what not.

Anyways, thanks for reading and if you have suggestions for what card to use rather than the R9 285 (Tonga) please say so. NOTE: Money is tight, hence the desire for a card less than $250.

Enjoy your day.

You can also buy a used video card for like half the price. When you do it though you should do stress test it. There are programs that do that.

EDIT: When buying used if you do your due-dilligence then it is pretty safe and sometimes you can get a video card with warranty.

The 285 is a nice card and will provide ample performance for your needs @ 1080p if not chasing 60fps in all titles.

But I'd be using a capture card for streaming and lighten the load off your system.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

The R9 285 is comparable to the original R9 280 in terms of performance. Personally the somewhat large bump in price doesn't justify the acceptable gain in tessellation performance. I would get a R9 280 for $165 instead if money is that tight. A slight OC will easily put it at R9 285 performance for nearly $80 less.

MIR for a measly $15 is to much work and you still need to have access to a printer LOL. Still $180 for the performance that comes with an R9 280 is sweet dam sweet plus the free games OMG !
