Slow loading folders

Go to solution Solved by MuPPet_bnt,

Ok so I've removed Clover... and everything seems to work super fast like before. I feel stupid for not thinking of this before.

I guess i have to get use to the annoying "One folder per wondow" again. At least its better then waiting 5 sec for a folder to open.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Hey guys

It's not a big problem, it's just very annoying! When I am navigating through my folders and files, almost every folder I open opens very slowly. This started about a week ago. Sometimes they open immediately and sometimes I have to wait 5 sec before it opens.

I don't think it's a hard drive problem, since it happens when navigating on all my drives.
I also found a "fix" on google by optimizing the folders for "general items". but looking at some folders shows that they are already set to "optimize for general items" and they still load slow..

Did anyone have the same problem and fixed it? Can anyone help me find a fix for this problem ?

Have you tried defragmenting the drives? (if they're HDDs and not SSDs)

No, I haven't. I have 1 SSD and 3 HDDs, but the navigation on the SSD also runs very slow. So I don't think that might be the problem, but i'll try is anyway.

Oh crap, I just realized I defragmented my drives a couple of days ago and it seems i wast paying mush attention at the time because I also defragmented my SSD :S I heard defragmenting an SSD is never a good idea. Could this be the root of the problem ? (Although I wouldn't know why it would aslo effect the other drives)

Nope, only if you do it very often it'll start to hurt the SSD performance.

Nope. I have a network drive, but i've been using it for about a year without any problems.

Alright. Just checking since windows is horrible with network drives in some cases.

Check and see if drive indexing is turned on. This usually only affects how quickly file searches take place, but toggling it off may give you a small performance boost. Also, just out curiosity, have you run chkdsk recently on your drives?

Check that the SSD is in AHCI mode (in BIOS) not IDE mode. Will make a massive speed difference. It should be in AHCI.

Have you scanned for malware? Viruses? Have you loaded a utility lately? Something is interfering with Explorer when you open a window. If it was just the hdd's I'd say that it's a Windows problem but with the ssd acting up as well that is not good.

I've already did a full system scan and nothing came up.

I am using a plug-in called Clover, this allows me to have tabs in an explorer window. But i've been using it for about 4 months without any problems.
