Don't see how this would help flip phones, seems rather flipsy at the folding point and most phones nowadays have cases/features to allow a sort of at a glance look.

it would allow a clam shell design where the screen flexes with a hinge behind it

which actually would be a good way to not break a phone screen and avoid having to have buttons

If this would lead to a touchscreen flip phone with ok specs, I wouldn't say it.

if flexible lcds can be made quite cheaply then projectors might go out of fashion due to just rolling down a lcd rather then a screen.
