AMD Total Processor-to-system Bandwidth

It's the link between the CPU and the chipset.  It's not really something that you need to pay attention to directly, it can steer decisions at the motherboard designer level though.  They only list it for completeness, I guess.

So I was looking my FX-6300 on AMD's site and I saw this:

Total Processor-to-system Bandwidth (HyperTransport plus memory bandwidth) Up to 37 GB/s

 

What is this? Is it something to do with how many PCI lanes it supports or what?

This doesn't include RAM bandwidth, does it?

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

RAM bandwidth is to Do with RAM speed and channel mode , for example dual channel has half the bandwidth as a Quad channel , but if the RAM is twice as fast then the bandwidth almost the same (in theory no actual numbers :D)

That's just an explanation of their proprietary point-to-point system bus. AMD microprocessors no longer use a front side bus like back in the day, it was replaced by HyperTransport starting with the Athlon 64. FM1 and FM2 socket based boards now only come with HyperTransport. It offers more bandwidth and lower latency between devices such as your CPU and GPU, CPU and memory, etc.

 

In short, DRAM controller = 29.9 GB/s peak bandwidth + HyperTransport (3.0 @ 16-bit) = 8 GB/s bandwidth = 37.9 GB/s total bandwidth.
