Which graphics card?

So guys, I want a graphics card and I have about £250 or $400 for you Americans out there. I'm not a fan boy of Nvidia or Amd but I'm preferably looking for a Nvidia card. What should I get? There are so many choices out there and I don't want to make a big mistake by making the wrong choice. So if you want to tell me what i should get it would be greatly appreciated

Do you find the software value-adds from either side important? For that price there are three main choices IMO - GTX 780, 970 and the 290X.

A little over budget though he only has £250....... a 780ti least £300+ here in the UK

All the benchmarks I have seen disagree with you... 

 

no comment on OCd cards though.. but every 970 review the 780ti pretty much beats it or is on par

I'd go for the 970 because it supports or will likely add support for newer technologies and almost as fast as a 780 ti while having reliable pricing.
