I think it's funny how my old system can still keep up with and outperform a new graphics card.  Here is my system and some results.

Asus CrossHair AM2/AM2+ motherboard

4x1GB OCZ DDR2 800mhz Ram

Amd Phenom 9650 OC to 2.64 Ghz

OCZ Z series 750 modular power supply

Asus GTX 750 PHOC 1GB

Now as I was saying when playing games like Farcry 3, Battlefield 4, Bioshock Infinate I am getting decent framerates at higher settings usually around 30-40 for FC3, BF4, and 40-60 on Bioshock.  But my GPU usage is rendering 99% while my cpu usage is usually only around 50-60%.  I hear so much about bottlenecking from cpu only a couple generations old but mine is from 6-7 yrs ago and still performs enough for me to upgrade to a beastly card.  I must say I'm not happy with the graphics as I would like more FPS closer to 60+ average but I am just surprised that people say their cpu is holding back their gpu when my old cpu quad core is still keeping up.  Just wondering your guys opinions or experiences if anyone has tried doing this with similar results or the opposite.

It really depends on the hardware being used and the game you are trying to play. I'm sure if you were running a 780ti or quad swag Titans you would have completely results. Some games (GTA IV comes to mind) rely heavily on CPU's, so a more modern or faster CPU would benefit those games (In GTA IV, I went from 30 fps to 100 by changing my C2Q 9550 to a FX-6100, while the GPU stayed the same).

Well in this case your bottleneck is the 750 which is not the fastest of cards, thats why your CPU is handling it just fine

if you shoved a GTX 980 in there your CPU you immediately become a bottleneck

I agree the gtx980 would be overkill.  I must say though when my system was built years ago it had 2 EVGA 8800GTX in SLI that cost $620 a piece when they were new and now they are not worth $20 a piece.  So why buy the biggest baddest GPU at the time when it will outdate your system before anything else does.  Seems like a waste of money.  The Asus GTX750 was a cheap buy at microcenter and my first self contribution to the machine besides the case when I bought it from someone.  I now wish I would have spent more money on a better card but didn't know if it would handle it and bottleneck the gpu since it was so old.  That's why I'm saying it's an overused term. Just because you have an older system doesn't mean it will bottleneck a newer graphics card.
