Hey guys! I just gotten this hard drive and the usb3.0 part (excluding the 2.0 port) seems to be faulty ( i checked with 3 different 3.0 cables and only 2.0 cables worked with this)

I am planning to RMA this, Anyone had any exp with WD's customer support? :o

I've had. They've been quite amazing with me and you will usually get a new drive within a week or two. Outline the troubleshooting steps you've tried (I've had the same problem as you're having with a My Passport, excepting I did not try 2.0 cables; it was advertised as a 3.0 drive and I tried known working 3.0 cables and it did not detect) and they will issue an RMA for you. The amazing thing is that often times, they will have their own dedicated person in a booth (at least here in India) who knows what they are doing, making your RMA a mere 10 minute wait rather than a tradition 30 minute one as it's down here.

In summary, they are nothing short of amazing :)

I hope this helps and best of luck with your RMA :D

You are using it in a 3.0 USB port, yes? And it's truly 3.0, not connected to a 2.0 port on the m/bd? The Elements line runs off the USB power and 2.0 isn't enough power I think.

They seem to have a outlet in Singapore as well! Hopefully it is as good as they are in india :D

USB2.0 works flawlessly but usb3.0 doesnt D:

Then if the drive works with the 2.0 port, it's not the drive.

I think the problem is with the usb3.0.... (like the external port other than usb2.0 port)

Yep. So RMAing the drive is pointless. You have checked that the USB3.0 is hooked up to the m/bd haven't you?

Yes! As in the usb3.0 port OF the hard drive is the one causing problems. I have another hard drive that works perfectly fine (usb 3.0 too)

Hi @xnoobftw

Could you please tell me your model number, so I can be more specific, while trying to help?

In general, your drive should be working in USB 3.0 ports. Please go to Device Manager, uninstall the drive, reboot and plug in the device again. It should reinstall automatically. You could even reinstall the USB controllers. You can check the motherboard manufacturer's web page for some details.

If you wish to do a RMA, go for it, but in your case there is a slight possibility that the issue persists with the second drive. Try the device on another PC.

Hope this helps

This drive should be working with USB 3.0. Try checking the drive on another PC with a USB 3.0 port. If it is still not working, contact the reseller and get a replacement.

Yep. It wasn't the drive but the port. It's like being a bit pregnant. Either it works or it doesn't. It can't partially work.

Is there another USB 3.0 Header on your motherboard?

It may use a different controller (AS Media vs Intel) and this may improve compatibility.
