I'm currently running a Intel i7 980 from 2011. Not to be confused with the i7 980x. It's running on a GigaByte GA-X58A-OC Motherboard. I'm monitoring my idle temp for my CPU right now in the BIOS, it's consistent 30-31C at all times. System temp is averaging 35-40C. Is it time for an upgrade? Just wondering if I should update my CPU/motherboard at all soon. My GTX970 arrives on Tuesday & I think it should be compatible.

Thanks guys. Are my idle CPU temps ok? I'm going to have to do a major water cooling system revamp here soon as it is long overdo and gunk is been built up and the fluid is old. Just making sure it's still alright. I'm currently thinking of a aftermarket CPU fan this go around to avoid maintenance or a AIO liquid cooling fan from corsair. What do you guys think? My current setup is a water loop with reservoir and it's a hassle. I'm not overclocking btw, I know most people say you only need liquid cool if you overclock idk.

Idle temp don't matter. Your running temps are fine. If you want to stress it and see the load temps then download OCCT.

And yes if you not goin to overclock a budget mid range cooler will be fine. CM 212 EVO and a lot less work. Or a AIO cooler. H60 H80 H100i
