Hi!

I recently read that an intel 4 or even 2- core is better for gaming because of its architecture than an AMD 6- core. Is that true? Because a lot of games support 4+ cpu cores.

So anyways, I'll be building a 500$ gaming rig, and I'm looking at the AMD FX-6300 cpu, but I don't really know if I would get any benefit of purchasing e.g. an intel cpu? My budget can't go over 550$ and if the cpu is more expensive, I'll have to buy a cheaper gpu, which I don't want since today's games are mostly gpu intensive.

So what are your thoughts on this: go with the FX- 6300 or an intel cpu (recommendations)

Stay with the FX-6300. It's a good processor and if you want to play games a better processor won't get you frames compared to a better graphics card.

it's actually more complicated then just the amount of cores.

 

yes, Intel has less cores and lower clock speeds, but they are more power efficient and use things like hyper treading to make up for that.

 

yes, AMD has more cores and higher speeds, but they have higher powerconsumptions and aren't that good with tricks like intel CPU's.

 

But for your budget stay with the FX cpu, otherwise you won't be able to get a proper GPU in your build.

If u go 6300, u going to get a lower end gpu, 270x or 760

if u maybe 770 or a 290. U well see ur gpu usage stuck at 70-80% only with a cheaper cpu

What GPU are you gonna get? If it's purely for gaming you can get something like a 860k and a stronger GPU.

@XiaoPineApple the fx 6300 won't bottleneck any gpu avaliable today because games only use 4 cores so it performs the same as a 8320/50 clocked at the same speed.

I will probabbly get an r9 270x and the problem is that I can't spend any more money on my cpu, so the price range of the cpu must be the same as the 6300.

The 270x is a great budget card, not the best but it can game.

Recently switch from an 8320 to an i5 4690k and I couldn't be happier. It outperforms ithe 8320 in every game I play. Even crysis 3 and bf4 multi. It's up to you if the cost is worth it. It was for me.
