Okay so i was messing around with my girlfriends iPhone 6 and I wanted to see how much thinner it was then my the Nexus 5, so I put them back to back. To my surprise the NFC chip on the Nexus 5 prompted Apple pay. Google Wallet was not prompted btw.

I know that you have to enter a pin or finger print in order to complete a purchase but do you guys think this is a potential problem in places that have lots of NFC enabled devices, like Australia?

Depends on how near the NFC is to request a prompt. It has a potential to cause some major problems, but I don't see it happening too often in standard practice.

@bacosta1993 It's already a "problem" here with people tapping other peoples wallets through pockets or whatever (70% of people here have contactless credit cards). Though it accounts for like 2% of credit card fraud, so is barely a problem.

Apple pay requires verification - so it actually solves this problem.

Nope... it's just a software thing, It acts like any other NFC tag and if you know NFC you have to get rather close.

Even though it may not be a problem I still find it funny that company like Apple put such an inferior NFC chip on their devices(might be their software) compared to Google.

It's their software. Nothing to do with the chip, and I'm not entirely sure it's even a bug. Software updates will surely abound, Apple's in new territory and treating it carefully.

this whole Apple Pay thing is making me crack the hell up. I mean, the way they presented it made it sound like they invented it.

noooooo

We've had that infrastructure over here across the other pond for literally

YYYYEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAARSSS...

Apple released this technology well before it was finished, it's still in development, and I think it's tripping... that's why we've got these issues.

Also there's the fact that no-one wants to adopt it as a standard anymore...

While I fully agree with what you're saying, if anyone is going to bring this to a consumer standard, it's going to be Apple. I'm a fan of the tech, and while i'm unhappy with the execution, I think that it will push the NFC communication field further.

YEEEEEEEEES, NFC has been around for quite some time.

BUT the way, Apple is using it, is quite a bit different (and secure) than most other implementations.

get over it

no. It is called Near Field Communication for a reason.

Here in Japan, unless you literally GIVE someone your rail pass, no-one but you can use it to buy things. it's literally as secure as cold hard cash. I don't think identity thieves are that desperate to buy porn from a convenience store... but don't quote me on that, I'm sure that there are loads...
