$500cad Laptop

So I'm doing this on behalf of a friend, he wants a laptop that can run Minecraft, that's about it. Probably homework as well but that's probably the lowest priority.

I thought of instead having a power hungry gaming laptop having a sensible laptop and using an external pcie thing and having that on his desktop so when he gets home he can do some hardcore gaming. He's also fine with a desktop but he also wants to go to school with it if possible. Budget:

500CAD

 

I also want to know if that all the gear needed for a pcie extender is worth the cost of an actual gaming laptop.
