My PC dislikes AMD GPU's

Goliathus

Hi,

I have been having some issues lately with my secondary gaming PC. It used to have a 8800GT but I upgraded to a 6970. For some reason the PC is unable to boot with that card and drivers. It runs fine with a GT210, GTX470 and GTX780. I had the 6970 in my primary rig for 1,5 years without any issues so I know it works. But when I try to boot windows with the 6970 on my secondary rig ( E7400, P5E SLI (nForce chipset), 4GB RAM, 650W PSU ) ntokrnl.exe crashes causing a BSOD (0xc000021a). I have tried Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8. They all work until I install the AMD driver and reboot. I think that there is some kind of compatibility issue, but I am not sure where to look. What should I do?

Update the BIOS to the latest version is all I can think of at the moment.

1# are you using the newest drivers from amd

and check to make sure card is seated good and all power cables hooked up good

2# test your ram .

just so i have it right..

you install windows as your 6970 is in the system and windows installs right and all is well

till you update your 6970 drivers to the newest drivers. before you updated your drivers . when windows was running

what driver was windows using.. did it see the card as a 6970?

Make sure the Nvidia drivers are completely uninstalled if you haven't already. They might be causing issues.

I don't know what else could be causing issues.

Aesthetics of rigs matter
