So I started watching the latest Tek from Tek Syndicate on youtube, right. They get into talking about this article here:

..Where the article says there's proof that the throttling/double-dipping (like on Netflix - the charges on both sides of the data) is harming 3rd parties. Which is what is beyond bad, and worse than what the ISPs stated was happening. Wendell and Logan start saying how the FTC/congress should get involved with the behavior from Time Warner, Comcast, CenturyLink, Verizon, AT&T and others, and I move my mouse to see this:

Youtube. Almost fully buffered. HD. 45+ minutes of video. Looks like Time Warner Cable suddenly stopped the bullshittery right around when this article came forth.

Like, they literally just stopped throttling the shit out of my connection.

I was getting an average of like 5.5-6mbps download for like 2-3 months straight, going below 2 (and eventually 1) megabits per second down a lot of the time. Even when I got at/above 5-6mbps, I had peaks and drops like crazy according to speedtest.net. As you can see from the above Speedtest, the download speed was pretty much maxing out at 16mbps (which is what I pay for) the entire length of the test (explains the boost in youtube performance).

So yeah, this feels good even though I'm paying close to $60 for the internet and plan on switching ISPs by the end of the year. Regardless, very funny TWC. Trying to dodge bullets, eh.

Coming from AT&T, i've been fairly happy with TWC. Granted, i'm one of the early houses in line to my local node, but my pings aren't atrocious (they're worse than they were on AT&T), bandwidth is solid, and jitter is great, and i've had no problems with throttling, thus far (about a year into my subscription.

And on a side note... that uhh... IP blur didn't work out so well for you.. :P

Wow, it's a real shame companies have to get this type of attention before they stop that stuff.

I personally have not experienced this, as I am not an American citizen, but I have heard too much from it now.

Lets hope all ISPs stop this now.

But wait, you actually get whatyou pay for? As in, you pay for 16 Mbs and you get it?

Everything except what I pay has been tolerable, honestly. I have found more bandwidth for cheaper here and am willing to give it a shot. If it sucks (which I doubt), I can go back to TWC with another shitty contract for half-priced internet.

Or I move elsewhere and get 100-1000mbps speeds, but I'm having trouble finding out what areas of my state actually have 100mbps+.

Clarification: Around 5 months ago I started having internet problems. Ever since that outage my net has been 100% fucked and it just pushed me to the edge. Had nothing to do with the outage, it was just about 2 weeks after that my net became slow. Looked hard and found out that some local ISPs are rather competitive (one is a DSL connection however) so I plan on giving it a shot. Done with TWC after that bs.

TWC doesn't offer contracts, that's the good part about them. I had to pay over $200 to get out of an At&t contract.

I've been with TWC for over 2 years. I am in the Los Angeles area and I have never been throttled, or have experienced a slow connection.

It's all dependant on who's around, dude. Anti-competitive behaviors.. I've been with em for longer and have been happy, for the most part. The only times my net has been bad is when it was very obviously throttled.

I was signed in for a 24 month contract.. Luckily that expired.
