2 760's or 1 970?

Go to solution Solved by AlwaysFSX,

One 970, don't SLI lower end cards.

1 970 would probably be more powerful anyway and consume less power

OK, so with the holiday season and the two days everyone buys things on (Cyber MOnday and Black Friday) I was wondering. Should I buy another EVGA gtx 760 or should i invest in an 970? If 970 which one would be best with 1080p 144hz gaming. Thanks for your time.

If you have a compatible motherboard along with a powerful enough PSU and good enough airflow then get another 760. A 760 is not a "low end" card. At 1080p two 760s will perform about the same as a 970, but SLI looks cooler and is easier then having to sell your 760.

Never SLI if you can get higher end cards, SLI doesn't always work  for all games and power consumption becomes an issue.

hm, sli issues are blown out of proportion most of the time, with most games these days sli doesn't really cause any significant problems.

Eh, I guess that is true, though there is also the issue of slight fps loss (card to card, not overall) as you increase the cards

If you can sell your 760 for a good price get the 970.

If you can't sell it and you need more power right now get other 760 and SLI.

Keep in mind that you're getting almost the same performance, but if you go with the 760's route you'll have more power consumption and 2GB Less of VRAM for almost the same performance.
