Will putting other files on a boot drive mess anything up?

No as long as you don't edit or remove any windows files storing is perfectly fine!

Recently I've been wanting to put Windows 8.1 on my laptop to replace the Window 7 Home Premium on it (I'm part of that small percentage that enjoys Win8.1 lol) but I only have one flash drive.

I have the .iso file on it (and key written elsewhere) but would adding things I need to bring back on the machine like essential documents and what not onto the flash drive mess with anything (say like, corrupt the .iso or instillation somehow)?

Sorry if I'm being stupid about this, I've never done this type of thing before. Only have installed an OS on a different PC with a fresh hard drive.

Once you do the process to make the USB bootable and it has all the files on it, you can add any other files you want. The Windows installation will just use the files it needs, it doesn't care about any other files you place on the USB after the iso is copied over and the USB is made bootable.

Desktop: Intel Core i5 2380P (2400 w/o iGPU), MSI H61, 8GB RAM, 256GB SP610, 500GB WD Blue, HIS R9 280, Antec TruePower Classic 550W, Inwin MANA 134, QNIX QX2710, CM QuickFire Rapid, Logitech G402

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite L40D, AMD A6-6310, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon R4 Graphics, 14" 1366x768

Good to know. When I install from a USB stick, I've always kept just the ISO on there. Now I can keep all of my drivers on there too. Thanks LTT peeps :)
