Best Cooler $40

Go to solution Solved by kei7t9,

Normally I would recommend Hyper 212 Evo. Max OC though is at 4.4 after that you need something better.

Alternatives are

Phanteks U-Type Dual Tower Premier CPU Cooler Black Edition

Notua NH D14

Enermax ETS T40 BK

EVGA ACX CPU Cooler

If you wanna stretch the money a wee bit further : Cryorig R1 Ultimate (currently running this cooler on a 4670K at 4.5 Ghz. This cooler can efficiently cool a 4.4  at 1.224 Max temp 58/ 4.5 at 1.26 Max Temp 67 / 4.6 at 1.30 Max temp 71 Although this is with a de-lidded 4670K + CLU.

sorry, just bad experiences with it in the past (bad cooler + i7 4790k = dead processor)

It's not a bad cooler.. Did you not apply thermal paste or mount it incorrectly?

mounted it correctly, applied thermal paste, had proper cooling, but when i went into a game to benchmark its performance to compare it to my old 2500k (the game was crysis 3) it studdered, then the pc turned off. tried turning it back on again but  it would not turn on. tried it on my friends rig and the pc would not turn on so i just returned the cooler, and put back in my 2500k (always had stock cooler) and now im looking to upgrade to i5 4690k. the i7 4790k i still have it in my closet near my pile of old processors.
