Graphics card failure case study

So I'm required to do some research about this topic and I don't know how to begin, I need someone out there to help me with generating some ideas for this topic. 

 

I'm studying mechanical engineering, so the ideas should cover the technical aspect of the topic.

start by buying 100 of each top tier video card from the major manufactures (ASUS, EVGA, PNY, Gigabyte, MSI, Powercolor, Sapphire)...

 

Then when your done just raffle them off to the LTT community.

Perhaps research components used in manufacturing graphics cards; how/why they're implemented and potential reasons they can fail.

• Capacitors, chokes, other electrical componentry failing over time

Cooling fans failing / defective (not spinning)

Overheating (again, defective cooling fan, poor system ventilation)

User error (mishandling, damage from electro-static discharge)

Simply a defective product right from the factory

One thing you can do is try to find a correlation between environmental conditions and failure rate.

-humidity

-temperature

-Proximity to sea (salt content in air)
